Chris Harrison is a bay area native. He crawled out of the bay somewhere between Richmond and Martinez, got picked up by his mom and dad, and was taken to Walnut Creek. He spent almost all his years within direct eyesight of Mt. Diablo and is now happy to see it only occasionally on a clear day from the Lower Haight. Chris started his music career in the fourth grade playing a recorder flute, then moved on to saxophone, with he played through high school. He picked up a bass in the seventh grade from a neighbor and fell in love. After forcing his music teacher to teach him how to play during lunch breaks, Chris started playing his borrowed bass in the school jazz band. He got his first bass, a Jackson 4 string CB230, for Christmas that year and managed to play it well enough to earn the Louie Armstrong Jazz Award at the end of the next school year. Chris' open mic experience started in 2001 playing with his dad, Bryan Harrison, at the Utah, the Canvas cafe and the Brainwash cafe among others. After disappearing for a few years under a car he was working on, he reemerged at the Cafe International where he met Tyler Gordon. Chris joined Tyler's new band, Coexist, and the two piece performed at at numerous open mics including the open mic Tyler hosts at the International. They broke up as a band after about a year, but remain close friends to this day. Chris now plays bass with Nutarah (new-tar-uh), a three piece that started with Jason Blair on guitar and vocals. The band recently picked up it's newest member, Louie Rappoport on drums, and plan on touring the country this summer. Nutarah also just released it's first EP, called "In The Way", which is available at all Nutarah shows for just $5!!!!!!! Hooray! Chris likes to think that his styling is reminiscent of Les Claypool and Primus. In fact when you talk to Chris, you may notice that he's mildly obsessed with Primus and can probably sing almost any Primus song that is requested. He has learned some very sloppy versions of many Primus songs and will jump at any opportunity to knock a riff or three out. I think I can get Primus in this paragraph two or three more times by rambling on about how great Primus is and when Primus will be playing next (Outside Lands!! Oh my God can't wait!!!). Primus! Chris also enjoys talking in the third person (and often in the plural) and swirling around his dry and crazy humor to confuse and amuse people ( including himself). Huh? Chris is now hungry and is going to go get some food, before enjoying all of the wonders Muni has to offer en route to the next show. Chris hopes that you enjoyed their bio and we're hoping to see you next week at the Utah!!!!!!!!!!
